Dragon Boating
Originated from China over 2000 years ago, dragon boat is a sport which
requires strength, flexibility, endurance and team spirit. The crew is
composed of 20 paddlers, one drummer and one steersperson who, together,
execute a spectacular display of paddling technique in perfect
synchronization. The teams compete in races of several distances: 250,
500, 1000 and 2000 meters. Today, dragon boat is considered one of the
most popular and fastest growing sports in the world. In Canada the
sport attracts an estimated 60,000 paddlers of various ages and skill
levels who take part in over 100 races.
Our Team
The Montreal Dragon Boat Club Women’s Team was founded in the fall of
2000. The women were chosen from the best paddlers in the region to
form an elite team. The Club has since become a very successful
organization receiving top rankings at numerous events and winning
several championships across Canada and abroad. At the 2006 Club Crew
World Championships held in Toronto, the team swept their division,
winning three gold medals (200m, 500m and 2000m).
Club Objectives
The goal for 2008 is to defend our title at the Club Crew World
Championships to be held in Penang, Malaysia on August 2-4, 2008.
